Around 20:00 on April 21, 2026, a woman driving in Fukushima Town's Shirafu area sighted a cub about 70 cm long; a dashcam recorded the cub crossing National Route 228. The sighting was about 15 meters from a residential area; the town urged residents to put out garbage only on collection days, and noted that fatal bear attacks occurred in July last year and in 2021.
