At around 16:25 on April 25, a cyclist spotted three bears (a mother and two cubs) between the Nayoro River and the embankment in Nishimachi, Shimokawa Town, and the town office reported it to police. Responding officers also saw the three bears, which then moved west into the brush. The adult was about 1.5 m long and each cub about 1.0 m. About 15 minutes earlier there had been a report of someone warning others about bears about 1.5 km southwest of the scene.
