Hanno saw its latest black bear report on April 20, 2026, when a bear-like animal about 1 meter long was spotted around 00:45 under the pedestrian bridge east of Misugidai Elementary School in Misugidai, close to a residential edge. That kind of late night sighting, paired with the recent appearance on the March 31, 2026 riverbank in Aoki, shows the bears are still moving through the built up side of town.

The most active spots have been along the Iruma River in Aoki and Kawadera, around Misugidai, and near the passes and slopes in Shimonaguri and Akazawa. Activity was heaviest in October 2025 with 19 incidents, then stayed active in November 2025 with 6, before easing to March 2026 with 3; Hanno has logged 73 black bear sightings overall.
