Since a bear was also sighted at the same location yesterday, please refrain from going out in the vicinity, and if you see a bear, call 110 from a safe location.

While descending the Inariyama course during trail running, I heard a loud rustling as if an animal was pushing through the bushes on my front left. When I looked toward the sound, I saw what appeared to be a black animal—likely a bear—running away quickly within about 50 meters. Although I was wearing sunglasses, it looked about 1–1.5 meters long, so I believe it was a bear. I had been running downhill with bear bells, so I think it noticed human presence and hurriedly fled. I didn’t have time to stop and take a photo, and the location is approximate. I was measuring distance by GPS as I ran, and it was just past 2 km from the summit, but I roughly identified the spot by comparing with someone’s recorded track on YAMAP. There may still be some margin of error. I posted this because there was a sighting reported yesterday at Yakoin.

From the hiking trail beside the old Koshu-kaido Sasago Tunnel, near Sasago Pass on the trail toward Mt. Sasago Karigaharasuri, I encountered a cub about 50 cm long approximately 50 meters ahead of my position. The cub ran up the slope on the left side of the trail, toward the Enzan side, from Sasago Pass and disappeared. I watched the same spot for about five minutes but did not see any adult bear.

On Thursday, June 11 at approximately 5:45 PM, in Fukuroguchi area, Takihara, Minamiaizu Town, a witness (male in his 70s) went outside to bring in laundry that had been hung out and spotted one bear (about 50 cm in body length) on the slope of the mountain southwest of his home. The bear then ran off toward the interior of the forest.

On Wednesday, June 10 at around 8:00 p.m., on National Route 121 in Miyamae, Kawashima, Minamiaizu Town, a passenger car traveling south collided with a bear (about 1 m in body length) that dashed onto the road from west to east. After the collision, the bear continued east and left for the forest. No human or property damage has been confirmed.

The bear lingered in that area for about 10 minutes and then walked away.

On Sunday, May 31 at around 9:20 a.m., in a forested area (Shimofutamata) of Yumoto, Tenei Village, a man in his 70s (Mr. A), a resident of Minamiaizu Town, was attacked by one bear and sustained injuries to the right side of his face and other areas. His injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

On Sunday, May 17, at approximately 5:45 p.m., in Kamihiradai, Naka-Arai, Minamiaizu Town, a witness (male in his 50s) went out into his yard to play with his dog and saw one bear (about 1 m in body length) prowling in the brush on the west side of his house. The bear then left for the woodland to the west.

On Sunday, May 17 at about 7:30 a.m., near the entrance of Ouse Park at 1-3 Higashinagakura, Kawauchi, Ouse-machi, Koriyama City, a witness (male, seated in the passenger seat of a vehicle) observed one bear (approximately 1 m in body length) crossing the road to the east and entering the woodland.

Around 07:30 on the 17th, a man in a car reported to police that he saw a bear crossing the road near the west entrance of Ouse Park in Ouse-machi, Koriyama. According to the police the bear, about 1 meter long, crossed the prefectural road and entered the forest in the park; the park had been closed after another sighting on the afternoon of the 16th and staff are patrolling and using firecrackers as countermeasures.

At around 07:30 on May 17, 2026, a man in a car spotted one bear crossing the road and entering the forest near the entrance of Ouse Park in Ouse-cho, Koriyama City, and reported it to the police. Ouse Park has been closed since the 16th after staff found a bear inside the park, and the animal seen this time is believed to be the same one based on its size.
