Around 09:00 on December 16, a passerby in a car reported a bear trying to enter the road from a guardrail near the Azusagawa River in Hata, Matsumoto City; about 10 minutes later another sighting was reported downstream. City officials and police responded but the bear had already left; no damage has been reported. Nearby elementary and junior high schools were warned and residents advised to be cautious.
