On May 6, 2026, shortly before 16:00, Hachinohe City conducted an emergency shooting at the city's sewerage office in Eiyo 3-chome, killing one adult female Asiatic black bear (about 1 m long, 50 kg). The bear had been seen at Numadate Ryokuchi Park about 2.5 hours earlier; authorities herded it away from commercial facilities and culled it in a location where safety could be ensured.
