Near Kita-Sakura Street, Nagatoro, Nagatoro Town, Chichibu District, Saitama Prefecture A bear thought to be an Asian black bear (tsukinowaguma) was spotted slightly off the busy tourist street in Nagatoro. It ran back into the mountain, but caution is advised because there are many people nearby.

According to Saitama Prefectural Police, at around 22:50 on the 1st two bears were sighted in Shimodano, Minano Town. One was an adult about 1 meter long and the other a cub; they are believed to be a parent and child, and were seen near the toll booth of the Minano toll road.

At about 20:30 on February 12, 2026, a bear approximately 1.5 m long was sighted standing up when illuminated by car headlights near the entrance of the Minano-Nagatoro IC on Route 140 in Minano, Minano Town; a driver reported it to police. Saitama Prefectural Police urged residents to be cautious.

Near the Minano-Nagatoro IC entrance intersection on Route 140 (Minano–Yorii Bypass) in Minano, Saitama Prefecture, a driver reported seeing a bear about 1.5 meters long stand up in vehicle headlights at around 8:30 p.m. on the 12th and called police. The police have urged people to be cautious.
