On the morning of May 5, 2026, a man was attacked by a bear in a rice field at Miyano-mae, Honnaishi, Higashiyuri, Yurihonjo City, Akita Prefecture; he had bleeding from his forehead and holes in his clothing. The man ran into a nearby pharmacy, where the shopkeeper gave first aid and called emergency services (119).

Around 08:20 on the 5th, a 48-year-old man inspecting rice fields in Higashiyuri, Yurihonjo City, was attacked by a bear and suffered injuries to his face and right arm. He ran into a nearby shop, was airlifted to a hospital by doctor helicopter, and was conscious and able to speak.
