At around 08:45 on April 29, 2026, two bears were sighted in Osawa, Yonezawa City, Yamagata Prefecture. The bears' lengths are unknown, no injuries to people have been confirmed, and the city is urging caution.

At around 07:30 on November 7, 2025, a single bear about 1.5 meters long was found inside the first floor of the Namerikawa Onsen ryokan Fukushima-ya in Yonezawa, Yamagata. The inn's owning family of three were briefly trapped on the second floor but escaped via an emergency staircase; the bear was culled under an emergency shooting order by the city at around 11:50.

Around 07:30 on November 7, 2025, a bear about 1.2 meters long entered the Fukushimaya hot-spring inn in Osawa, Yonezawa (Yamagata Prefecture) via the crawlspace, remained on the first floor, ransacked a refrigerator and tore shoji screens. The inn's three family members escaped via an emergency staircase unharmed, and the bear was culled in an emergency shooting by hunters around 11:50.

Around 3:00 PM on October 26, in Kurayama area, Tsuyu Onsen Town, Fukushima City, the witness saw a bear about 1 m walking near a facility. The bear then left northwest from the sighting location.

Around 9:35 AM on July 21, along the Bandai Azuma Skyline route near the Jodo-daira Visitor Center, a man in his 40s driving toward Fukushima City observed a bear about 1.5 m long walking southwest from the road about 100 m away; the bear walked toward the southwest (toward the Jodo-daira Visitor Center).
