Around 07:10 on February 16, 2026, a single bear about 1.5 m long was sighted in a park near Zao Miharashi Hill Museum Park in Yamagata City. The bear walked toward the north side where residential areas and a grove are located; city authorities, police and hunters have been patrolling the area but the bear's whereabouts are unknown and the park is closed for the time being.
