Multiple bear sightings were reported in Inawashiro Town. On March 25 at 14:30 a 0.3 m bear was seen in a fallow paddy field at Yawata (Aza Kubohata); on March 27 at 10:45 a train driver spotted a roughly 1 m bear in a rice field north of the JR Ban'etsu West Line at Yamagata; and on March 27 at about 18:00 two bears (about 60 cm each) were observed in a residential property chestnut tree in Mitsuwa. Police have been patrolling and issuing warnings; no human injuries have been reported.
