On September 12 the Ministry of the Environment installed a surveillance camera on a road along the Iwaubetsu River in Shiretoko National Park, and one brown bear was observed during the installation. Repeated ambushing behavior by tourists getting out of their vehicles has led to bears becoming habituated, increasing the risk of human injuries; the footage will be used to check violations and share information with relevant agencies.
