Around 08:00 on February 24, 2026, one bear was sighted and filmed on the shore of Lake Furen, which spans Nemuro City and Betsukai Town. The photographer, taking eagle photos near a lodge, spotted the bear; there were reports of another sighting at the same location the previous day.
