Funagata’s most recent worrying report came on March 13, 2026, when a bear cub about 50 cm long was repeatedly seen on the grounds around Koseien in Funagata Town and then turned up in a residential area. That same day, hunters were also responding in the town as the young bear kept moving through the neighborhood edge.
In Funagata, the activity is concentrated around human habitation, especially near residential areas and facilities like Koseien and the Koshoen welfare facility, with a similar cluster also noted in Nagasawa. The pace has been heaviest in October 2025 and November 2025, and the area has logged 183 black bear sightings overall.
