At around 08:00 on December 26, 2025, a male zoo employee in his 50s was attacked by a wild bear about 80 cm long at the No.4 parking lot of Omoriyama Zoo in Akita City, suffering bites to his right shoulder, right flank, and face and was taken to a hospital in the city. The employee was conscious and able to speak, and Akita City has set up a capture cage (box trap) nearby and is maintaining caution.
