Ōsaki Hachimangū has been seeing the kind of bear activity that keeps trailheads busy at dusk: on May 6, 2026, around 22:00, a black bear about 1 meter long was seen crossing the road at an intersection in Kamiyatagari, Izumi Ward, Sendai, right by a shopping mall, and two more sightings were reported the same hour in nearby Sendai Chomeigaoka higashi. On May 5, 2026, another bear about 1 meter long crossed a road in Moniwa Hitokurada Higashi, Taihaku Ward, Sendai, near the Tohoku Expressway Sendai Minami IC, showing how close these encounters are getting to roads and neighborhoods.
The most active stretches are in Sendai, especially Izumi Ward, Aoba Ward, and Taihaku Ward, where reports keep turning up around green strips, road crossings, and residential edges.
