On May 18 (Monday) at around 3:00 PM, a witness (male) spotted one bear (about 1 m in body length) in a fallow field in Nishinochi, Sasayama, Funabiki-machi, Tamura City while driving. The bear later left toward the forested area to the south.

On Saturday, May 16, at approximately 6:10 a.m., a male caller walking in the Omori Nishihyō area of Fukushima City sighted one bear (about 1.5 m in body length) moving east. The bear later returned into the mountains to the west and departed.

At around 06:10 on May 16, 2026, a man walking in Omori Nishiomote, Fukushima City, spotted a single bear about 1.5 meters long. The bear returned to the mountains afterward, and no injuries have been reported.

On the morning of May 16, 2026, a bear was seen around 05:20 near the municipal Seventh Junior High School in Azusagawa, Yonezawa City; about an hour later another bear was reported in Mansei-cho Ushimori at 06:20, and roughly an hour after that a bear was sighted in Hachimabara 4-chome. All observed bears were about 1 meter long; it is unknown whether they were the same individual. The police have increased patrols and the prefecture issued a bear sighting warning.

While descending the Inariyama course during trail running, I heard a loud rustling as if an animal was pushing through the bushes on my front left. When I looked toward the sound, I saw what appeared to be a black animal—likely a bear—running away quickly within about 50 meters. Although I was wearing sunglasses, it looked about 1–1.5 meters long, so I believe it was a bear. I had been running downhill with bear bells, so I think it noticed human presence and hurriedly fled. I didn’t have time to stop and take a photo, and the location is approximate. I was measuring distance by GPS as I ran, and it was just past 2 km from the summit, but I roughly identified the spot by comparing with someone’s recorded track on YAMAP. There may still be some margin of error. I posted this because there was a sighting reported yesterday at Yakoin.
