In Sakata City (Yamagata), a 78-year-old man who went into the mountains to gather wild plants on May 3 was later found dead. A forensic autopsy found deep wounds causing fatal bleeding; the body showed animal bite marks and drag marks, and one adult bear was culled near the scene, leading police to suspect a bear attack.
