On the morning of March 19, 2026, bear footprints about 14 cm wide were found on the grounds of Kawayu Junior High School in Teshikaga, Hokkaido. The prints are believed to be from an adult bear; the presence of both newer and older prints in different directions suggests repeated visits, possibly to drink from a nearby river, and the school has asked parents to drive students and is maintaining heightened vigilance.
