At around 06:25 on November 15, 2025, a bear about 1 meter long was found caught in a trap on a persimmon tree near residences in Goroku, Aoba Ward, Sendai; the trap was on its left paw and the bear was thrashing in the tree. Police established a cordon and the city and the hunters' association are responding. A cub was reported to be nearby and no people were injured.
