Fukushima saw a black bear in Nihonmatsu at Harasekawara on April 30, 2026 at about 10:50 a.m., when an woman in her 80s spotted a single bear about 1 meter long on a farm road. That same morning brought more reports from Kunimi along National Route 4, where bears about 0.5 meter long were seen near the central divider, showing how often these animals are now showing up close to roads and farmland.

The busiest areas in the recent reports have been Kunimi, Aizumisato, Sukagawa, Nihonmatsu, and Inawashiro, with activity strongest in October 2025 and November 2025, when reports surged to 763 and 748. The pace then eased through winter into March 2026 with 129 reports, but the area has still logged 5,350 black bear sightings overall, so this is not a one off pattern.
