Fukushima’s most recent hard encounter came on April 26, when a man gathering wild plants in Sakuramoto was attacked by a black bear and injured, with another attack reported the same morning in Sakuramoto Aizawa. Just days earlier, on April 28 at about 3:25 p.m., a runner spotted a single bear on the Arakawa riverbank at Niida Nishi Shimokawara, and on April 27 around 6:30 p.m. a bear was seen on a road in Hiraiishi Uehara.
The busiest stretches have been around Fukushima City itself, especially Sakuramoto, Tsuchiyu Onsen, Niida Nishi Shimokawara, and the Mount Shinobu area, where people keep reporting bears near roads, riverbanks, and woodland edges.
