Koriyama's most recent strong signal came on April 29, 2026, when a man in his 70s doing farm work in Fukura Nakahama, Konan-machi saw a single black bear about 1 meter long in a field before it moved off. Earlier in April, bears were also reported near Route 49 in Atami-machi, along the Abukuma River bank in Tamuramachi, and around Fukura, which shows the activity is not staying in one corner of the city.
The busiest ground has been around Konan-machi, Tamuramachi, Atami-machi, and Asahi, with repeated sightings close to farm fields, riverbanks, roadsides, and the city edge. Activity peaked in November with 69 incidents and October with 55, then stayed active through March with 18, and Koriyama has now logged 338 black bear sightings overall.
