Shimogo’s most recent bear report came on April 6, 2026 at Shimogo Oaza Minamikurasawa, where a driver on Route 289 saw 1 black bear about 1.5 m long climb over a roadside fence and head into the mountains. There were no human injuries, and that kind of roadside encounter shows bears are still moving right along the forest edge.
The busiest spots have been around Yunokami, Toraka, and the wider Shimogo area, with repeated reports also coming from Yamazaki, Toyonari.
