Kitashiobara's latest black bear report came on April 24, 2026 at 16:20, when a cub about 50 cm long was seen in Kitashiobara; it was a different individual from the one reported at 3:00 PM the same day, and the earlier bear had been crossing the road. Another cub of the same size had already been reported in the area at 3:00 PM, showing that bear activity is still turning up along local roads and near the village edge.
The most active places in the recent reports are the National Route 459 corridor in Hibara and the school grounds in Kitayama, where multiple sightings were logged in March and April. Activity peaked in July with 31 reports and again in October with 25, while Kitashiobara has recorded 188 black bear sightings overall, with smaller monthly clusters continuing into January, March, and April.
