Hanamaki saw its most immediate trouble on May 4, 2026, when an adult black bear was found near a chicken coop in Ishidoriyacho Kitaterabayashi, where an overturned bucket and scattered feed showed the animal had been searching for food. Two more sightings followed in the same Ishidoriya area on May 3, including one inside Ishidoriya Fureai Sports Park, which tells the story of bears moving close to homes and public spaces.
The busiest ground in Hanamaki has been around Ishidoriya, Matsuzonocho, and other mountain edge neighborhoods, with activity peaking in October 2025 at 21 incidents and staying heavy in November 2025 at 14 and July 2025 at 12. The area has recorded 88 black bear sightings overall, and the recent run of reports shows that the bear presence is still active across both residential fringe and parkland settings.
