At around 05:35 on May 20, 2026, a single bear about 1 meter long was sighted in Taihaku Forest Park in Aoba Ward, Sendai. The city closed eight main park access points, installed two cameras near the eastern large pond, and prohibited passage in almost the entire park for the time being.
